A natural wine, unfashioned but characterful Grignolino grape. Light, juicy, slightly sour and very Piemontese. The Grignolino grape fell out of fashion in favour of the more accessible Barbera and Nebbiolo in Piemonte but it is a grape that has been planted there for centuries mainly in the Asti region. The name Grignolino comes from the word grignole which means ‘many pips’ in the local Asti dialect. The preponderance of pips gives the wine a distintive tannic profile (very Piemontese) and bitterness alongside fresh cherries and crunchy red fruits. The tannins can be tamed by very soft pressing, which is what has been done here to keep the fruitiness but with a softer, more supple mouth feel. Very tasty, for some antipasti or Bagna Cauda.
